Wed 06th May - That's English

Explore London with Google maps! Hi kids,

This week you’re going to explore London using Google Maps to help you answer the questions below. Hopefully most of you know how to use Google Maps but, if you don’t, I’m sure there is someone at home who can give you a helping hand to begin with.

OK, so let's begin. I’ll give you a hand with the first question.

1, What are the two famous London landmarks you can see from Westminster Bridge?

So, it asks you for the two London landmarks you can see from Westminster Bridge. To find out, type in Westminster Bridge in the Google Maps search box. When the map locates the bridge, go to street view (in case you’re not sure, it’s the little yellow man in the bottom right hand corner of the screen) Drag the little man onto the bridge and let go. When you are ‘virtually’ on the bridge, have a look around. What are the two important landmarks you can see close by? I’m sure you recognise them both, right? Write down your answer.

So, now you know how it works, try the next question.

2, Now travel to 188 Regent Street. (Type the address into Google Maps) What is the name of the famous toy shop you can find there? Can you see it? Again, write down your answer.

3, Next we are off to 6 Kensington Road. What is the name of the famous concert hall there? Write down your answer.

4, Now head to The Mall. What is the name of the Palace at the far end of the road?  Write down your answer.

5, Lastly, search 1 Carter Lane. 1 Carter lane is a pretty boring looking building, right? But if you turn around, there is something slightly more interesting! What is the name of the beautiful white building on the other side of the road? Write down your answer.

OK, now you have your answers, go to the Google Forms questions below and select the correct answer to each question. As always, make sure you are logged into your Google account before you begin to answer the questions.

I hope you enjoyed the exercise and hopefully it has given you more motivation to visit London in the future.

Take care and have a nice week.

Paul
